03/09/10 Election to Cause a Near Complete Turnover for Fordyce City Council

This election cycle will end with a near complete turn over for the Fordyce City Government.

The filing period to run for office in the May Preferential Primary election ended at noon on Monday with two man race for Fordyce city mayor and three alderman races.

As we previously announced aldermen Lou Hunt and John MacNichol are both seeking the Democratic nomination for Mayor.

The city council races include Ward 2 Position 2 between Bill Keeton and Jeff Ballard; Ward 3 Position 1 between Barbara Spears and Duane Brewer; and a Ward 3 Position 2 race between Todd Roark and Don Parrson.

Other Fordyce city candidates running in the primary election are Michael Jackson Alderman Ward 1 Position 1, Melvin Collins for re-election to Ward 1 Position 2, Darrell Coston Ward 2 Position 1 and Tom Wynne for City Attorney.

There are no Preferential Primary challenges to any county wide seats this May and the only other race in Dallas County is for a city alderman position in Sparkman. The Ward 1, Position 1 seat being sought by Ophia Blevins and Mary Oliver.

Interested parties may still run for an elected position as an independent candidate in this year’s general election. The filing period for independents is August 4th through the 24th.
